The workshop premise is that these poles should not be merely opposed world-views, and that coordinating them and integrating them is a key to ever having a serious Science of Design. 93: \\ 94: 95: === post-workshop reflections === 96: 97: **Al Selvin **? at: [[http://knowledgeart.blogspot.com/2008/06/slow-design-part-1.html>>http://knowledgeart.blogspot.com/2008/06/slow-design-part-1.html||class="external" title=""]] 98: **~ Jack Carroll **"Creativity and Rationale in Software Design" ? at: [[carroll-CR-Manifesto.pdf>>attach:carroll-CR-Manifesto.pdf||class="internal" title=""]] 99: \\ 100: 101: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 102: ---- 103: 104: === === 105: 106: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 107: **NSF International Workshop on Studying Design Creativity'08**))) 108: 109: (% style="text-align:center" %) 110: **Design Science, Computer Science, Cognitive Science and Neuroscience Approaches: The State-of-the-Art** 111: 112: (% style="text-align:center" %) 113: **10-11 March 2008 ** 114: 115: (% style="text-align:center" %) 116: **University of Provence, Aix-en-Provence, France** 117: 118: (% style="text-align:center" %) 119: **contact: Professor John Gero; john@johngero.com** 120: 121: (% style="text-align:center" %) 122: (An invitation only workshop) 123: 124: (% style="text-align:center" %) 125: **website [[http://mason.gmu.edu/~jgero/conferences/sdc08/>>http://mason.gmu.edu/jgero/conferences/sdc08/||class="external" title=""]]** 126: 127: === Short Description === 128: 129: Design has become a fruitful research area for cognitive psychologists, cognitive scientists and for design scientists. For the former it represents a particularly rich and open environment within which to study complex human behaviour. For design scientists the tools to study designers are only now becoming available. Design involves the creation of worlds and entails the interaction between minds and the artefacts they produce. This opens a variety of areas for study since designers work with tools, operate solely or within teams. They collaborate with others who are co-located or at a distance. Designers use external symbol systems extensively, particularly sketches which implies a high level of visual reasoning. Designers can be studied in-situ or in laboratory settings or through models of design processes. 130: \\ 131: 132: === post-workshop reflections === 133: 134: **Gerhard Fischer **"Design Creativity: A Multi-Dimensional Perspective" - at: [[post-ws-reflections-gf.pdf>>attach:post-ws-reflections-gf.pdf||class="internal" title=""]] 135: \\ 136: 137: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 138: ---- 139: 140: === === 141: 142: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 143: **Symposium on Computational Approaches to Creativity in Science**))) 144: 145: (% style="text-align:center" %) 146: **March 29?30, 2008 ** 147: 148: (% style="text-align:center" %) 149: **Center for the Study of Language and Information, 150: Stanford University, Stanford, CA** 151: 152: (% style="text-align:center" %) 153: host: **[[Institute for the Study of Learning and Expertise>>http://www.isle.org||title=""]]** 154: 155: (% style="text-align:center" %) 156: contact: **[[Will Bridewell>>http://cll.stanford.edu/willb||title=""]]** 157: 158: (% style="text-align:center" %) 159: website: **[[http://cll.stanford.edu/symposia/creativity/>>http://cll.stanford.edu/symposia/creativity/||class="external" title=""]]** 160: 161: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 162: ---- 163: 164: === === 165: 166: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 167: **Creative Intelligent Systems**))) 168: 169: === === 170: 171: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 172: **AAAI Spring Symposium Series**))) 173: 174: (% style="text-align:center" %) 175: **March 26-28, 2008 ** 176: 177: (% style="text-align:center" %) 178: **Stanford University, Stanford, CA** 179: 180: (% style="text-align:center" %) 181: **contact: [[Dan Ventura>>XWiki.DanVentura||class="internal" title=""]]** 182: 183: (% style="text-align:center" %) 184: **website: [[http://axon.cs.byu.edu/CreativeAI>>http://axon.cs.byu.edu/CreativeAI||class="external" title=""]]** 185: 186: === Short Description === 187: 188: Although it seems clear that creativity plays an important role in developing intelligent systems, it is less clear how to model, simulate, or evaluate creativity in such systems. In other words, it is often easier to recognize the presence and effect of creativity than to describe or prescribe it. The purpose of this symposium is to explore the synergies between creative cognition and intelligent systems in a cross-disciplinary setting that fosters cooperation both in designing creative systems and in creatively designing systems. This focus on creativity in the context of intelligent systems has the potential for increasing innovation in existing fields of research as well as for defining new fields of study, including Artificially Creative Systems, Computational Models of Human Creativity and Intelligent Systems for Supporting Creativity. 189: \\ 190: 191: === post-workshop reflections === 192: 193: **Dan Ventura, Mary Lou Maher and Simon Colton **"Creativity and Rationale in Software Design" ? at: [[http://axon.cs.byu.edu/papers/ventura.aaai08ss3.report.pdf>>http://axon.cs.byu.edu/papers/ventura.aaai08ss3.report.pdf||class="external" title=""]] 194: \\ 195: 196: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 197: ---- 198: 199: === === 200: 201: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 202: **Workshop on**))) 203: 204: === === 205: 206: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 207: **?Success factors in fostering creativity in IT research and education?**))) 208: 209: (% style="text-align:center" %) 210: **January 18-20, 2008 ** 211: 212: (% style="text-align:center" %) 213: **Arts, Media and Engineering program (AME), Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ** 214: 215: (% style="text-align:center" %) 216: **contact: Professor Thanassis Rikaki; t.rikakis@asu.edu** 217: 218: (% style="text-align:center" %) 219: **website: [[http://ame.asu.edu/news/creativeit>>http://ame.asu.edu/news/creativeit||class="external" title=""]]** 220: 221: (% style="text-align:center" %) 222: some results posted [[here>>ASU Workshop.Success Factors Workshop||class="internal" title=""]] 223: 224: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 225: ---- 226: 227: === === 228: 229: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 230: **Workshop on Synergies Between **))) 231: 232: === === 233: 234: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 235: **Creativity and Information Technology, Science, Engineering, and Design:**))) 236: 237: === === 238: 239: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 240: **Defining a Research Emphasis**))) 241: 242: (% style="text-align:center" %) 243: **November 2 and 3, 2006** 244: 245: (% style="text-align:center" %) 246: Hilton Arlington Towers Hotel, Virginia 247: 248: (% style="text-align:center" %) 249: [[Further Information>>Main.CreativeIT Workshop||class="internal" title=""]] 250: 251: (% noshade="noshade" size="2" %) 252: ---- 253: 254: === === 255: 256: ((((% style="text-align:center" %) 257: Workshop on Creativity Support Tools))) 258: 259: (% style="text-align:center" %) 260: Sponsored by the National Science Foundation 261: 262: (% style="text-align:center" %) 263: //June 13-14, 2005, Washington, DC// 264: 265: (% style="text-align:center" %) 266: [[Further Information>>Main.Workshop on Creativity Support Tools||class="internal" title=""]]
